LEMON WATER- Why Does This Improve Your Health?

In this post, I will talk to you about the benefits of lemon water and why it is important to look after your gut health. I will discuss, why and when to have it as well how to get the most from drinking it and how it aids good gut health.

Lemon Water

Lemon water allows your body to prepare. By kick starting your digestive system and helping to boost your immune system due to the high intake of vitamin C. (Lemon is also good for your skin). Lemon Water is best taken as soon as you wake up.

Breaking your fast with fruit...

Plate of fruit, mix 2-4 pieces of fruit each day and consume as the first meal. The reason behind this is;

Due to the needing protein to help grow and prepare muscle (even more with regular exercise) the body needs to learn to break it down and digest it as quickly as possible. Fruit is high in fibre, which combines with the lemon juice preparing the digestive system, the fibre in the fruit keeps it working smoothly.

Whats next...

Immediately after the fruit, consume a high protein & fat meal. 2-4 scrambled eggs (no milk) definitely kills 2 birds with 1 stone as eggs are high in both protein and fat. Scrambled Tofu is a good substitute for veggie options. Partner this with 2/3 vegetables (cold or hot).

This then coincides with our equation:

Lemon water = Prepares digestive system

Fruit = Keeps it running smoothly

Digestive system = break protein down faster

Protein = muscle repair and growth

Fast recovery = Able to do more

Do more = Faster & better result

A little extra, just for you...

I would recommend doing your daily exercise within the fasted period after the lemon water. This allows the body to tap into fat stores as a source of energy rather than using up the carbohydrates that you have consumed that day.

3/4 hours after your first meal:

Higher carbohydrate meal, in order to replenish the energy lost since your wake up. This does not mean over indulge on cakes, bread and refined sugars. Use this meal to consume lighter carbohydrates such as rice, potato, lentils or a tortilla in order to allow your digestive system to digest it speedily so you do not have a midday/ afternoon slump. (Also it will allow you to reenergise if you do exercise later in the day) partner your carbohydrates with lots of veggies as well as some added protein and a piece of fruit to finish so you do not get that sweet tooth craving afterwards.

Your gut is your best friend...

Why is your gut your best friend? Well, let me tell you... Your gut contains healthy bacteria and immune cells that ward off infectious agents like bacteria, viruses and fungi. A healthy gut also communicates with the brain through nerves and hormones, which helps maintain general health and good well-being.
